The defender played a key part in Barnsley's miraculous relegation escape in the 2019-2020 season.

Kenyan international Clarke Oduor could be handed a lifeline as he is tipped to join two English Football League (EFL) sides Cardiff City and Birmingham City after struggling for game time at Barnsley.

The 22-year-old has been handed a peripheral role at Barnsley after dropping down the pecking order with the club struggling at the wrong end of the table.

According to Football League World, Birmingham and Cardiff could profit by roping in the left wingback to strengthen their as both teams are also in danger of relegation.

Birmingham City have deployed Jordan Graham and Jeremie Bela to the left-back position but could aim for a top-half finish with the signing of Oduor.

“Jordan Graham and Jeremie Bela have made a good fist of it playing out of position, however sourcing a couple of wing-backs on loan deals or pursuing a player like Barnsley’s Clarke Oduor would give them the best chance of achieving a top-half finish,” read an article from Football League World.

Oduor made his Harambee Stars debut in the 2-1 win over Zambia back in October 2020 but has since been overlooked by Jacob Ghost Mulee and Engin Firat

The former Leeds United defender has also been rumoured with a move to Cardiff City and his marauding runs and solidity at the back are bound to plug the leaky defense which has shipped in 43 goals this season.

“The 22-year-old fits perfectly into the role of a modern wing back but has had his pathway blocked by Callum Styles’ impressive displays in the position. The Kenyan could thrive with the Bluebirds looking to reduce the average age of the squad and has shown in flashes that he has the quality to perform at Championship level,” read an article from Football League World.
