The ruling European champions lose against Germany despite going in front early on
Germany defeated Portugal 4-2 in Group F at Euro 2020 on Saturday to revive their hopes of reaching the last 16 and leave the reigning champions in danger of crashing out. Cristiano Ronaldo put Portugal ahead in Munich but own goals from Ruben Dias and Raphael Guerreiro gave Germany the advantage before Kai Havertz and Robin Gosens struck in the second half to make it 4-1.
Diogo Jota pulled a goal back for Portugal, but it was too little too late. It was a bit of a shocker for Portugal tonight. They are the first reigning champions in European Championship history to concede four goals in a single match in the competition.

It’s only the second time that Portugal have conceded four goals in a single game during major tournament - both came against Germany who also humbled them at the 2014 World Cup.
It was a very energetic Germany performance on a scorching hot day in Munich and further proof that team spirit is sky high. There were a few nervy moments in the closing stages, but this victory should create euphoria among fans.
Atalanta and Germany left wing-back Robin Goosens was the best player on the pitch. He was involved in almost all the goals and managed to find the net himself. He was always impressive off the ball and closed the space next to Antonio Rudiger. Portugal could hardly get in behind down his side. Gosens stayed high when going forward and always posed a threat in one-on-ones and with his crossing.
The Portuguese will be rueing the costly mistakes they’ve committed at the back. You cannot do that against such a good opponent. They are now level on three points with Germany and a point behind leaders France. Portugal face France in their final game while Germany take on bottom side Hungary.
