Dimba Patriots coach Idd Shikanda says they have beefed up their team by signing three-quarters of the starting line-up and are ready to compete until the end of the season.

The team handed a walk-over to SamWest BlackBoots two weeks ago despite being the home team and were docked six points.

Speaking after his side lost 2-0 to Kibera Black Stars in a National Super League (NSL) match on Saturday, Shikanda said they have sorted the issue with players.

“Today, three-quarters of the players who featured for us were new as we had a big injury list but now we are ready for the upcoming fixtures,” he said.

Shikanda said playing with new players cost them the three points against their Saturday opponents but he also blamed the match referee for awarding Kibera a ‘dubious penalty’.

“It was a great game and we dominated a good chunk of it. Our mantra is always to work hard when we have the ball and also the same when we lose the ball.

Today, we witnessed pathetic officiating, especially from the centre referee who gave our opponents a dubious penalty since there was no contact at all. But we take it and improve in our next game,” he said.

Shikanda pointed out that his side needs to improve in the final third as they had created many chances against Kibera Black Stars but failed to take advantage.

“I am glad that we have a whole week to correct our mistakes in the last game and we are determined to do better. Regarding the second goal scored by our opponents, we failed to watch out for our blind side and allowed them to score,” he explained.

But he praised his charges for taking the game to their opponents, especially at the start of the second half.

“We knew they would come all out at us in the second half and came up with a strategy to contain them and this worked perfectly.”
