No force in the world can control the delirious Argentina fans

The madness continues in the land of World Champions. And when it comes to madness, Argentinean goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is second to none! The unhinged goalie continued his private war with French attacker Kylian Mbappe by slapping on a cutout of the Frenchman's face on a doll. The man who already called for "a minute of silence for Mbappe, who is dead" has now presented him as a crying baby that he carried around in his arms while waving the fans off the roof of an open-top bus. Some say it's over the top, but few of those are Argentinean.

Lionel Messi, Argentina captain and Mbappe's PSG teammate, stood next to the mental goalkeeper but later claimed that he didn't see the doll. It might be an awkward reunion when Messi travels back to Paris to continue training with Mbappe...

For those who don't know why Martinez is so determined to ridicule the young goalscorer, the answer can be found in an interview the Frenchman gave with TNT Sports. There, he claimed that European teams are more prepared for international competitions than their South American counterparts because of the high level of football played in their country. Martinez has made it his mission to point out the youngster's delusion.

While speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the final, Martinez replied to Mbappe's remarks.

"He doesn't know enough about football. He never played in South America. When you don't have this experience, it may be better not to talk about it. But it doesn't matter. We are a great team and recognized as such."

But even though Aston Villa's goalie got his revenge on Mbappe, there were many fans left disappointed because they didn't get to celebrate with their heroes. After a few people tried to jump onto the bus while it was going under a bridge, the Argentinean police said enough was enough. Most people missed the main show after the chaotic bus trip was aborted nearly five hours after it began, with police deciding it could not go on for security reasons.

Safety concerns were raised after some fans tried to jump into the bus from a bridge, and the remainder of the trip was cancelled. A hastily arranged helicopter tour that took Messi, Scaloni and midfielder Rodrigo De Paul over the main parade sites was little consolation for those who had hoped to see them in the flesh.

By the end of the day, minor clashes had broken out between fans and police who moved to evict a small group that had forced its way into the area around the Obelisk. It turns out it's difficult to control a crowd of five million people that are drunk with football ecstasy.

Shortly after the parade ended, Messi was greeted with a hero's reception when he returned home. The 35-year-old returned to his home city for the first time since lifting the World Cup on Sunday. To him, the police decision was not so bad, as it allowed him to get to his house quicker. Following the parade, Messi was flown back by helicopter from Buenos Aires to Rosario - some 185 miles away - before he was pictured in a car driven by his wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, as they headed home.
