Sofapaka have been one of the famous teams in the country, and historically won the league title in their maiden season when they assembled a star-studded side to shock and disappoint established teams.
The team made a name for themselves as money-bags during their early years in the league, offering competitive salaries, as well as lucrative bonuses including sign-on fees.
However, Batoto Ba Mungu have been struggling in recent seasons, with numerous cases of unpaid salaries and allowances that have eventually seen the team narrowly escape relegation.
After escaping relegation multiple times, Sofapaka is now on the verge of being swallowed by the wide jaws of relegation, with only one defeat separating them from the chop.
The Elly Kalekwa-led side have only managed to secure three wins in their 29 games this season.
Even more disturbing is the fact that Sofapaka have not tasted victory this year, with their last win traced back to 20 November 2025, their winless run currently standing at 21 games -more than a whole leg of a league season.
Nevertheless, they will be seeking to postpone what looks like an imminent drop to the second tier, by going all out in search for a win at the expense of Mathare United.
The Slum Boys, on the other hand, are currently 12th on the log with 34 points, two shy of the magical 36 points that is generally required to avoid relegation.
The 2008 champions have had mixed results in their past five matches, winning one, drawing two and losing two, including their last match against Nairobi United, and will therefore be targeting a win that would return them to winning ways.
Ahead of the match, which marks the beginning of round 30, Gor Mahia are still at the summit of the league table with 61 points, six more than second placed AFC Leopards, while Police FC close the top three with 48 points.
