Chelsea's young Argentine delighted Jamie Carragher with his authority on the pitch

During Chelsea's recent 2-2 draw against Arsenal, there appeared to be a dispute over who should take a penalty awarded to Chelsea. Enzo Fernandez, the $130 million signing from Benfica, intervened in the argument between Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling and seemed to assert his authority by indicating that Palmer should take the penalty.

It was a good indication of the Argentine's leadership qualities for former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher. Carra praised Fernandez for the authority he displayed in this situation and mentioned that he prefers that penalty takers be decided before the game.

"I don't like players arguing for a penalty. I think people should know before the game who the penalty taker is. But what I did like was the authority shown by Enzo Fernandez. For a young player, he is saying to a seasoned professional in Raheem Sterling that Cole Palmer is taking it, in almost that cool manner. It was almost captain-like or someone in their early twenties. It was really interesting, and it was good to see Cole Palmer score to go along with his performance."

In the same match, Chelsea took a 2-0 lead, but Arsenal mounted a late comeback to secure a 2-2 draw. Mykhaylo Mudryk and Palmer scored for Chelsea, while Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard netted for Arsenal.

The former Reds star has been an admirer of the former Benfica player for some time. Speaking about young midfielder a couple of months ago, Carragher described Enzo as the second-best, with only Real Madrid's sensation Jude Bellingham rated higher.

"I would put Bellingham as number one. I may put Fernandez second because he looks like a complete midfield player. I would go with Declan Rice next and I would go fourth with Moises Caicedo, who I am a huge fan of, but I would put him fourth on this list."
