Omala's goal helped Gor pick points against Batoto ba Mungu as Tusker and Nzoia started the season with wins.

Benson Omala’s goal from the spot eight minutes from time helped Gor Mahia secure a point in a one-all draw against Sofapaka in an FKF Premier League match played at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

Heading into the game, the league champions were seeking to start their season with a win over a Batoto ba Mungu side that had recruited massively after losing a good number of players who were part of the team last season.

However, it wasn’t to be, as Batoto ba Mungu had other ideas, denying the league champions on several occasions, particularly in the first half.

Against the run of play, Sofapaka took the lead through a Darius Msagha deflected shot in the 42nd minute. Gor labored throughout the second half and finally got an 82nd-minute penalty, which Benson Omala converted to spare his team a blow.

In Bungoma, Nzoia Sugar FC came from behind to secure maximum points in a 2-1 win over Ulinzi Stars. The Millers were expected to be underdogs in the game after losing over 20 players who were part of the squad last season and having to recruit 20 days before playing the Soldiers.

New signing Benjamin Mosha opened the scoring for the Soldiers in the 32nd minute before Victor Haki drew Nzoia Sugar level seven minutes into the second half. Another new boy, Victor Oyugi, would then settle the match with a 90th-minute goal after coming off the bench.

In Mombasa, ten-man Tusker FC labored before bagging maximum points against Tusker in a 1-0 triumph. The only goal was scored by Ugandan striker Deogratiou Ojok in the 42nd minute. Young midfielder David Odoyo saw red in the 58th minute, leaving the Brewers a man down for over 30 minutes.

At the Kasarani Annex, ambitious Kenya Police and Kariobangi Sharks shared the spoils in a barren draw.
