With the 2025 AFCON coming to a conclusion last Sunday 18 January, all eyes shift to the 2027 edition which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Apart from hosting the tournament, the national team, Harambee Stars will compete in the 2027 edition as hosts, making their return to the tournament after an eight-year absence.
With doubts raised over the team’s readiness for the tournament, especially after their dismal performance in both the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Mohammed stepped in to explain why fans and Kenyans at large should have confidence in the national team.
“We have had a lengthy discussion with the coach and have done well to ensure that we put in the work and provide an enabling environment for them to thrive,” said Mohammed.
The FKF honcho who was speaking to FKF Media from Morocco where he led a Kenyan delegation on benchmarking duties, explained the steps taken by the federation to ensure the team is well equipped.
“We have asked for their wish list to ensure we are on the same page and together with the government, we will provide everything that they need to succeed,” he stated.
Mohammed is also banking on the experience gained from hosting the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) successfully to come in handy next year.
“Kenya will be ready, we did it in CHAN and will do it once again for AFCON. As a region, we have a resilient, committed and dedicated population which will help us deliver.
Our President also delivers on his promises and we also have the backing of CAF. Once we get support from Kenyans, we will host the most successful tournament,” he explained.
