The fixture had been postponed twice due to Nairobi United’s involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup, but it will finally be played on Wednesday, with coaches Godfrey Oduor and Sammy 'Pamzo' Omolo set to go head-to-head for the first time in a Premier League meeting between the two clubs.
Naibois last featured in continental action against Azam FC in Zanzibar, where they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat. The loss extinguished their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals, meaning their remaining group-stage matches will be dead rubbers.
With qualification out of reach, the team will now focus on gaining valuable experience and restoring confidence on the domestic front.
APS Bomet, meanwhile, comes into the match following a defeat to in-form Murang’a Seal at St. Sebastian Park. Currently battling relegation, the visitors see this fixture as a crucial opportunity to collect points and move closer to safety.
While the team has shown promise in attack, defensive lapses have cost them dearly — an issue they will be keen to address.
Nairobi United will be hoping to apply the lessons learned from their continental campaign. Midfielder Enock Machaka believes the experience gained in the CAF Confederation Cup will strengthen the team’s performance in the league.
“We are learning a lot of lessons from the CAF Confederation Cup matches, which I think will make things easier for us in the league,” said Machaka.
He highlighted physicality as a key area of concern during their group-stage campaign.
“In terms of physicality, we were not ready compared to most of our opponents. Azam were the only team we could match in terms of size and physical presence, but we still lost both matches. That is something we must improve,” he added.
On the injury front, Nairobi United will be without influential attackers Michael Karamor and Ovella Ochieng. Karamor is nursing a back injury, while Ochieng is sidelined with a shoulder problem.
Both missed the recent match against Azam FC. APS, on the other hand, will welcome back striker Hansel Ochieng, who has been out for a couple of weeks with an injury.
Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM at Nyayo Stadium.
