You're having a party? No way!
Police had to be called after a bunch of disgruntled Flamengo supporters arrived in front of their star striker Gabriel Barbosa's house, angry that he's decided to throw himself a birthday party despite the club's poor results. Even in the rain, a group of around 30 Flamengo fanatics protested outside the venue where Gabigol's 27th birthday party was held on Tuesday night in Rio de Janeiro.
Although Gabigol's birthday is on Wednesday, he had already scheduled the party for the eve. Despite Flamengo being in the Copa do Brasil final, the recent elimination from the Copa Libertadores along with a 15-point gap to the league leader Botafogo in the league, the loss of titles in the first half of the year (Carioca, Mundial, Supercopa do Brasil and Copa Sudamericana), and the string of poor performances have plunged the club into crisis. At the same time, coach Jorge Sampaoli's position is under threat.

Few Flamengo players attended the party. One of them was Gerson, who was recognized upon arriving by car and became the target of many insults from the annoyed supporters who gathered in front of Gabriel Barbosa's house. Another vehicle, in which midfielder Erick Pulgar was said to be inside, had its side mirror broken, and the police had to intervene, causing a commotion. Some fireworks were set off outside. The Flamengo fans also protested against the team in general with chants of "shame, shame, shameless team."
As a precaution, the party organizers had surrounded the venue with metal barriers from early on, hired security guards to stand outside, and three police vehicles were called to the scene. The Flamengo fans carried banners criticizing both Gabigol's celebration and the striker himself. The group also bullied club president Rodolfo Landim and vice-president Marcos Braz.
But the man of the hour didn't seem to care. Just like he did the year before last, Gabigol released a new song on his birthday. The Brazil international fancies himself a rapper with a career in entertainment waiting for him as soon as he finishes playing football. He wouldn't let his special night be ruined.

The club seems to do its best to disgruntle the fanbase further. Despite Flamengo's training sessions usually being held in the morning, the one scheduled for Wednesday, the day after the party, was set for the afternoon. Following a 0-0 draw against Internacional's last Saturday, the Flamengo squad resumed training on Monday and is preparing for the upcoming derby against league leaders Botafogo on Saturday.
Fans in Brazil won't even let you celebrate your birthday in peace if your results are unsatisfactory.
