Mosengo-Omba emerged victorious during the federation’s General Assembly and elections held in Kinshasa on Wednesday, securing an overwhelming 60 votes out of a possible 65 to begin a four-year term at the helm of Congolese football.

The election brought to an end a lengthy electoral process in the country, with FECOFA having previously operated under a FIFA-appointed normalization committee as part of efforts to restore stability and strengthen governance structures.

The 66-year-old went into the elections as the overwhelming favorite, with several potential challengers either ruled ineligible or withdrawing from the race before voting day, leaving him as the sole name on the final ballot.

Mosengo-Omba’s election marks a swift return to football administration just months after stepping down from his role as CAF General Secretary in March, a position he had held since 2021.

During his tenure at CAF, he played a key role in overseeing administrative reforms and improving competition management systems across member associations at a time when the continental governing body was undergoing major governance and structural changes.

Before joining CAF, Mosengo-Omba also served at FIFA from 2016 as Regional Manager in the Member Associations Division covering Africa and the Caribbean.

Congolese football stakeholders are now hopeful that his international experience, networks, and administrative expertise will help revive and modernize the country’s football structures while accelerating the growth of the game.
