Erik ten Hag's slot brushes aside the second-division side in the first match after the resume of the season

Happy return of the club football to whom it may concern!

And there isn't a better stage for that than the iconic Old Trafford, where Manchester United deservedly topped Burnley 2-0 in the League Cup tie on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils, led by tonight unplayable Marcus Rashford, scored a goal in each half to see off the EFL Championship side guided by Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany.

Chrisitan Eriksen opened the scoring after a perfect three-piece action kickstarted by Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder opted for Wan-Bissaka on the right flank, and the latter launched a stunning kung-fu cross, with Eriksen having nothing but to put that tap-in behind the keeper for a 1-0 lead.

That opener eased the pressure on United as they started to play more fluidly and created several promising chances to double the lead. However, it stayed 1-0 on the scoreboard at half-time. The visitors were looking for glimpses of space and a chance to level the game from the counter, but instead of that, Rashford bit them with their own teeth.

The prolific forward captured the ball near the halfway line on United's part, and took it for about 60 yards past several Clarets before firing it to the far corner for 2-0. What a beauty!

At that moment, with almost 35 minutes left on the clock, it was blatantly clear who was winning this. Burnley did a decent job in the following half an hour, but except for one Barnes' sitter, they just couldn't hurt the much better favourites.
