This afternoon, Harambee Stars will take on South Sudan at Namboole Stadium in Uganda for a crucial CHAN qualifier, aiming to overturn a 2-0 first-leg loss and advance to the final round of qualification.

Although Kenya has already secured a spot in next year's CHAN tournament as co-hosts alongside Uganda and Tanzania, the match is a key opportunity to assess the team's readiness ahead of the competition, which features only players from the domestic league.

If Kenya can overcome the deficit, they will face the winner of the Rwanda vs. Djibouti tie in the final qualification round—matches that coach Engin Firat sees as important for further sharpening his squad.

Following last week’s unexpected 2-0 defeat in Juba, Firat responded by dropping 13 players and initially calling up 11 replacements.

On Saturday, he made another late addition, bringing in Kenya Police FC midfielder Tyson Otieno, who joined the team early Sunday morning.

Kenya will play the return leg in Uganda due to the lack of a CAF-approved stadium in the country, a situation midfielder Austin Odhiambo admits is less than ideal.

“The only downside is missing home support,” he said. “South Sudan fed off their crowd’s energy in the first leg, and we need that kind of backing too.”

Despite the significant changes to the squad, Odhiambo remains confident, citing familiarity among the players. “Most of us have played together, either at our clubs or with the national team. That connection gives us a strong chance to win.”
