Otieno thankful to family and club for offering him a comfortable shoulder to lean on while injured
When the doctor broke the unpalatable news of a looming knee surgery to Kariobangi Sharks winger, Patrick Otieno in February, the fleet-footed player was left scratching his head on how to cope with life in early months of post operation.
The youngster knew he would struggle to carry on with his daily chores after facing the knife considering that he lives alone in one of the Nairobi estates.
Otieno was operated on February 24 after tearing his right leg meniscus in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) match against Ulinzi Stars staged at the Kasarani Stadium in January.

However, the saying that family is a gift which lasts forever came in play as his mother Jetrid Akumu alongside his younger brother Mark Oduor came to his aid after the duo hit the road from Busia to Nairobi to offer him a shoulder to lean on until he was back on his feet again.
The former Rising Stars attacking midfielder said the duo with the blessings from his father Tom Were spent more than a month with him and returned home after he began his rehabilitation sessions.
"When I called Mum and informed her that I was scheduled for a surgery, she and my younger brother came to live with me. She was worried that I will have problems in doing the light household chores. They stayed with me until I began my rehabilitation. I sincerely thank my family for their kind gesture which went a long way in hastening my recovery, " he said.
The former Nzoia Sugar player who also thanked his employer for shouldering the medical bill revealed that he was angling to kick the ball again in July.

Otieno who is working on his recovery under the eye of club physiotherapist John Kemboi said he was comfortable in walking unlike before where he relied on crutches.
"I did not spend a dime on my treatment as the club took care of everything. My teammates occasionally visit me, making the journey to recovery smoother. I have already began my rehabilitation programs and according to the doctor, I will be ready for selection by July, " he added.
