Ecuadorian football fanatic became the youngest manager to win promotion to the top division

Joe Armas has made an incredible journey from being a bricklayer to becoming a successful football manager with Imbabura SC in Ecuador. His dream of becoming a footballer was cut short as a teenager, so he decided to pursue a career in football management. At the age of 17, he travelled to Spain to study technical management and sports management while working as a bricklayer to support himself financially.

During his time in Spain, Armas had the opportunity to visit top clubs like Real Madrid, Ajax, Athletic Bilbao, and PSV, gaining valuable insights into the game. His mind was focused on one thing only: to become a head coach of a team - and he didn't really care which one.

In 2021, he returned to Ecuador and sent his CV to 300 clubs, even offering to work for free to get a chance. He eventually got an opportunity with third-tier Imbabura SC, and in his first season as a manager, he guided the team to promotion.

In his second season, Imbabura SC reached the Copa Ecuador quarter-finals, even defeating Liga de Quito, one of Ecuador's prominent clubs. This season, Armas achieved promotion to the top flight at the age of just 27. His emotional reaction upon winning promotion showcased his dedication and passion for the game.

"First, I want to thank God, because we have had faith in every day, in every training session, in every game. I also want to thank the most important people who are the players. Without them, all this would not be possible. Thank you to the entire team because this is an achievement for everyone, not just one person."

Imbabura SC will compete in the Ecuadorian top flight next season, and Joe Armas has already established himself as a promising young manager to watch.
