The Kenyan international parted ways with Simba after the expiry of his two-year contract

Days after parting ways with Tanzanian giants, Simba SC, Francis Kahata has been linked with a move to Sudanese giants, Al-Merrikh Sporting Club.

The Kenyan international parted ways with Simba after the expiry of his two-year contract. During his time with the club, he won one league title and was on course of bagging another this season.

Reports in Tanzania now indicate that the silky midfielder could be Sudan bound. According to Tanzanian journalist Maulid Kitenge, Kahata has began talks with Al-Merrikh. He also dismissed talks of him joining Azam.

"Francis Kahata has officially parted ways with Simba after the expiry of his contract with the club. He is in talks with Al-Merrikh, no Tanzanian club has approached him," he tweeted.

Should he seal the move, he will become the second Kenyan in recent years to play for the Sudanese giants after Allan Wanga who turned out for the side during the 2014-15 season before leaving for Azam.

Kahata joined Simba in June 2019 from Gor Mahia. He enjoyed his first season in Simba colors and played a key role in their league title triumph. His second season however has been a challenging one as he was reduced to a fringe player at the club.

In January he was deregistered from the league squad with Zimbabwean forward Perfect Chikwende taking his place. He featured in a handful CAF Champions League games before they were bundled out by Kaizer Chiefs.

On Saturday morning, he took to social media to confirm his departure from the club.

"It’s been a journey that is sweet, memorable and bitter since I first landed to this great country Tanzania. I received immense support and love from the executive team led by Mo Dewji, technical staff, playing unit, and Wanasimba fans,” read part of his post.
