The Spaniard changed his mind and will join Real Madrid
Real experienced a lot of bad luck just a day before the start of La Liga when Thibaut Courtois tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his knee, so now, they are forced to urgently look for a goalkeeper for the next season. The club wanted Yassin Bono from Sevilla, but the Andalusians demanded 20,000,000 euros, so the Madrid team turned to other solutions. As first reported by Florian Plettenberg, followed by numerous other media, including the Spanish Marca, Kepa Arrizabalaga is on his way to standing among the posts of the Royal Club.
He had an agreement with Bayern, who are also looking for a new goalkeeper after the departure of Yan Sommer to Inter, as well as due to the fact that Manuel Neuer has not yet recovered from his injury, but he changed his decision at the last minute and the realization of the transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu is expected in the next few hours. Real's interest made the Chelsea goalkeeper change his mind and as things stand, he is moving on loan to Madrid, and Bayern have reportedly been informed of the new development of the situation.
The most expensive goalkeeper in history, whom the Blues paid 80,000,000 euros to Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2018, will finally end up in the ranks of the Royal Club, considering that he was on the verge of a transfer five years ago for 20,000,000 euros. But at that time, Zinedine Zidane, who was coaching Real Madrid, decided that he did not need a new goalkeeper in addition to Keylor Navas.
Kepa was the starter in his first two seasons at Stamford Bridge but lost his place between the posts when Edouard Mendy arrived at the club. He didn't have the confidence of Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel, but Graham Potter brought him back to the fore. Last season, he logged 3,465 minutes in goal for the Blues. This summer, the London club shipped the Senegalese international Mendy to Saudi Arabia (Al Ahly), and instead hired Roberto Sanchez from Brighton. With Kepa all but signed, it remains to be seen what move Bayern will make, considering that they need a goalkeeper. They could sign David De Gea, who has not had a club since leaving Manchester United.
