Police went into the match sitting fifth on the log with 17 points, two behind Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz, who were inactive on Saturday.

Sharks, on the other hand, were rooted to the foot of the table with eight points, courtesy of their poor start to the season.

Police were targeting victory in the match to get back to winning ways after suffering a 1-0 loss in their last match against Shabana FC.

The Law Enforcers started the match on the front foot, with Erick Zakayo and David Simiyu making dangerous runs from the flanks.

By the 10th minute, Police had created goal-scoring opportunities through Marvin Nabwire and Zakayo, but with no significant changes to the scoreboard.

Police created their first real chance in the 18th minute, but Tychick Mosengo headed over the bar from a free header.

It was then Sharks' turn to create their first meaningful chance in the 32nd minute, but Steve Mbulere chose to dribble instead of setting up Andreas Odhiambo as the match progressed to halftime with no goals.

In the second half, the match started at a rather slow pace until the 55th minute when it was brought to life by Harambee Stars CHAN captain Abud Omar.

The former Bandari FC defender once again stepped up from a free kick on the right side, which he curled over the wall with pace and quickly dipped to beat Sebastian Wekesa in the Sharks goal and into the back of the net to give Police the lead.

William Muluya's charges reacted to the goal by pushing more numbers forward and resorted to overloads on the wings to bring in the crosses, but the Police defense marshalled by Charles Ouma stood tall to prevent any danger and guarantee Police three points that took them to the top of the table.

Sharks, on the other hand, are now on a seven-match winless streak as their poor run continues.
