The Kenyatta University men's football team has landed a tough group in the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Football World Cup set for Jinjiang, China next month.

The Varsity boys booked a slot at the world stage after emerging winners in the African qualifiers that were held at the University premises in June, 2022.

The event, which will be held between 21 and 31 October 2023, will be the second edition of the games, with the first one held in 2021.

Top University Football teams will compete to become the next FISU World champions with a total of twelve men teams and eight women teams competing for world glory.

Africa and Kenya's ambassadors Kenyatta have been pooled alongside South American champions Paulista University and University of Split from Croatia, with the hard nuts set to start their campaign on October 23 against the South American giants.

The hard nuts have been in residential camp since July in preparation for the global showdown with a total of 30 students undergoing intense training under the tutelage of veteran Tobias Ochola, Carolyne Ajowi and Joseph Ndungu.

As per the team's hierarchy, Kenya's representatives are engaged in physical, technical and tactical training; build-up matches, gym sessions, hydrotherapy sessions and expert talks to squeeze the best out of them.

"We are engaging the boys in very intense training sessions to try and prepare them both physically and mentally for the huge assignment ahead of them," offered Ochola.

Green Commandos assistant captain Price Musebe, who turns out for the varsity boys expressed satisfaction with the preparations and remained adamant of delivering gold for Kenya and the continent at large.

"We have been camping since July and from what I have seen from the training sessions, this team is ready and we are going to fight for the honors," said the 19 year old playmaker.

The varsity boys have lined up a series of build up matches as they prepare for their departure in early October with clashes against second tier and third tier sides in the offing.
