Man Utd striker gets fiercely kicked in the back by San Marino defender and then tarnished on social media by the same guy
We're not sure if Rasmus Hojlund is of Erling Haaland's ilk, nor does it really matter. The Manchester United striker, 20, is definitely one of those promising forwards who are yet to shine on the biggest stage. And the Red Devils' fanbase expects him to reach the levels of some of his predecessors in the red shirt that took Old Trafford and the Premier League by storm.
However, before doing so, the Danish player should learn a few more lessons about football and life.
Let's get straight to the point - Hojlund has become the subject of various discussions following his anything-but-low-profile adventure at San Marino with Denmark on Tuesday night.
In a bad-tempered clash with the world's officially worst national side, the Dannes triumphed 2-1, and Hojlund netted the winner. Still, it was his goal celebration - as he was showing the opposite fans to be silent - that triggered the anger among the rivals. The commotion began at that very moment, as Hojlund's teammates had to protect the scorer in the aftermath of his disrespectful gesture.
But it was far from over...
Look at this horror foul by San Marino.

If their knee was just the slightest of margins higher, chances are Hojlund might've left that match in a wheelchair.

Three minutes before the final whistle, San Marino's defender, Roberto Di Maio, brutally fouled Hojlund, kicking him harshly in the back with his flying knee. He got away with only a yellow card, but the intention of hurting the Danish striker was apparent. And he took to social media after the game to complain about his rival's behaviour...
"I feel they targeted me, as you can see at the end. I understand Italian, and I could hear them saying they had the idea to crush me...
"Especially that last duel, it has nothing to do with football. You can see from the images that he only had one idea in mind."
But it was far from over again...
Di Maio's original post in Italian (©Instagram)The very same San Marino defender, Di Maio, responded to Hojlund on Instagram in a fierce fashion.
"Today, I read that 80 million complained about being mistreated yesterday by the San Marino defenders. Well, my dear, probably in today's football, where physical contact has disappeared, you can afford to make fun of us, little opponents, with ugly gestures or to fake at every opportunity, hoping for a penalty from the VAR. I would have liked to see you 15 years ago when only the real men played football!"
OK, Hojlund should probably move on after this, because we don't even want to imagine what the third 'strike' would look like...
