Man City's triumph over Liverpool is larger than life: Cityzens have waited for this 89 years!

It took them almost nine decades to complete a double over the Reds in a single season. And guess who won the title that year...?

Records are meant to be broken, but some last longer than others... And that particular one, which was put to death on Sunday night at Anfield, lasted for the entire 89 years!

That's how long it took for Manchester City to register two league victories against Liverpool in a single season. They've now done it this season (3-0, 2-1) and last time before that was in 1936-37!

In the 1936–37 English First Division season, Manchester City humiliated the Reds with 5-1 and 5-0 wins on their road to the club's first-ever league championship. City finished top of the table with a remarkable campaign, scoring 107 goals and edging out Charlton Athletic and Arsenal to lift the trophy.

Now, the setup is quite different, as it seems, with Arsenal being six points clear at the top, while City are only a shadow of their former selves. Still, not even those strongest squads under Pep Guardiola's tutelage at the Etihad could take down Liverpool twice in the same season.

On the other hand, Arne Slot's men are surely showing signs of slacking. In their last 20 EPL games, Liverpool have collected just 24 points (six wins, six draws, eight defeats). Roy Hodgson was sacked back in the day at Anfield after 20 games in charge, as he earned 25 points (seven wins, four draws, nine losses). Slot's time is slowly running out, and those in charge are probably considering some other options for the next season, if not sooner.
