The Slum Boys are yet to record back-to-back wins in the league campaign.

While they have performed well against tough opponents such as Nairobi United, Kakamega Homeboyz, KCB FC, and Shabana FC, they have also dropped points against sides many consider more manageable.

Their latest setback came on Monday afternoon at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, where they lost 1–0 to a determined Mara Sugar FC.

Dennis Cheruiyot’s second-half goal was enough for the Millers to claim maximum points on the road, lifting them out of the relegation zone, while adding to the frustrations of Kamau and his team.

In his post-match interview, Kamau questioned the team’s mindset, citing it as the main reason for inconsistent performances. He admitted that the team’s character, without going into specifics, was lacking against Mara Sugar.

“It is frustrating, but if we are to win back-to-back games, we must change our mentality. What we saw today is not good at all, and our current mindset needs to improve,” he said.

Reviewing the game, Kamau described it as disappointing, highlighting a poor first-half performance, missed chances, and a goal conceded from an individual error.

“It was a disappointing game, that is how I would sum it up,” he said.

“In the first half, we were a shadow of ourselves. In the second half, we created five or six clear chances, but we failed to convert them, and the opponent scored from an individual error to win the game.”

Mathare United will now hope to bounce back in their next fixture against Bidco United.
