Elly Asieche and Timothy Otieno are somef of the big names unveiled by the Slum Boys ahead of the new season

Mathare United has managed to hold on to seven players from their previous squad that got relegated, and have managed to sign proven legs as they begin a new life in the National Super League (NSL).

The Slum Boys kissed the grass after close to three decades in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL), but are plotting for an immediate return to the table of men.

"Our aim is to return to the Premier League as quickly as possible," the club's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jecton Obure told Mozzart Sport.

To this end, and after losing a good number of names from the previous team, the club has recruited with an intent of making an immediate impact; blending youth and experience.

Some of the notable names they will unveil before they play their season opener at Migori Youth over the weekend are former Gor Mahia striker Timothy Otieno from Posta Rangers, Elly Asieche from Kakamega Homeboyz, former Kariobangi Sharks defender Pascal Ogweno, Cliff Kasuti and Christian Kitamba - all joining from Kibera Black Stars.

Also linking up with the 2008 Premier League champions before transfer deadline on Friday are forwards Parmenas Ochola formerly of Gor Mahia Youth and Glen Odhiambo from Tusker Youth.

"It's a good blend of youth and experience, and I'm satisfied with our preparation for the new season," Obure said.

Lack of finances has been a serious challenge to Mathare United and is partly attributable to their downfall, but Obure has assured they are not resting on their laurels, and seeking a permanent solution to the problem.

"For now we have well wishers and friends of Mathare United who have stood with us and supported us since last season, but we are looking for a sponsor to augment their effort."
