Goals from Jerrine Adhiambo Aguero, Faith Ochieng and Iddah Adhiambo ensured Mathare not only secured all three points but also mathematically confirmed their return to the top tier with six matches still left in the campaign.
The result leaves their closest challengers Bandari Queens trailing by 15 points, a gap that is now impossible to bridge.
It marks a remarkable turnaround for the Slum Girls, who were relegated from the league in May 2021 following a difficult campaign that ended with a heavy defeat to Gaspo Women and saw them finish bottom of the table.
This time, however, the script has been very different.
Heading into the decisive fixture, head coach Anne Aluoch had already set the tone, insisting her side would approach the match like a final, a mindset that was reflected in their performance on the pitch.
Mathare played with purpose and control, dictating the tempo and showing the attacking sharpness that has defined their campaign.
Their cutting edge in the final third once again proved decisive as they broke down a resilient Gitothua side.
The victory adds to an already impressive run of form that has seen them firmly grip the top spot. In recent matches, Mathare had shown their intent with a 3-1 win over Hildana Queens, where Irene Adhiambo netted a brace, and Fridah Ochieng added another, a performance that highlighted their depth and efficiency going forward.
Earlier wins, including key results against Gor Mahia Queens, had already positioned them as firm favourites for promotion, and they have lived up to that billing with consistency and composure.
Across the campaign, Mathare have built their success on a strong foundation, combining tactical discipline with attacking fluidity.
Their record of 16 wins, one draw and just one defeat from 18 matches tells the story of a side that has outclassed the competition.
That consistency has created a significant cushion at the top, allowing them to wrap up promotion early and shift focus towards finishing the season strongly.
Reflecting on the journey, Aluoch has often pointed to the team’s resilience, particularly in away matches and high-pressure situations, as a key factor behind their rise.
