Migori Youth head coach Sammy Otulo Owano has opened up on his team's failure to bag a win against Mombasa United.

The highly hyped match that brought together multitude of fans including several leaders led by Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho as well as Migori Youth patron and Uriri MP Mark Nyamita among others was tipped as a potential title decider in the second tier.

Speaking after the match, Owano who acknowledged the prowess of the opponent also cited the appointment of coach Peter Okidi as a key ingredient for the stalemate.

We were prepared for the match adequately knowing that we were going to meet a strong team.

They knew us more than we knew them and also had a new coach from the FKF Premier League who had to impress by getting at least a point in his first match,” said Owano.

Okidi was appointed to lead the Suleiman Shahbal-backed side on Thursday, 30 April after parting ways with Shabana FC whom he had led to an impressive third position in the FKFPL standings.

Nonetheless, Owano, whose side wasted many glorious opportunities to score, expressed his pleasure with the match’s outcome even as he promised to work on his team's lethargy in front of goal.

I am satisfied with the result despite missing many clear chances which came our way due to the good work we put in training,” he remarked.

With the result, Migori are still at the summit of the log with 65 points, same as Mombasa United with the two only separated by goal difference.

Next up for Migori is a home match against MOFA on Sunday, 10 May, a clash that they will be hoping that their attack led by Syphus Otieno rediscover their scoring form.
