For Migori Youth, whose unforgettable 2025/26 season ended with the FKF National Super League title and a historic promotion to the FKF Premier League, one such figure was midfielder Harmvine Okoth.

While goals and celebrations defined Migori's fairytale campaign, it was Okoth's tireless displays in midfield that provided the foundation upon which the club built one of the finest seasons in its history.

The young defensive midfielder established himself as the heartbeat of Sammy Otulo's side, combining discipline, composure and relentless work rate to become one of the first names on the team sheet.

Born and raised in Kakrao Centre in Migori County, Okoth's journey to the top has been one of patience, resilience and steady progression.

His talent continued to blossom, earning him a place at the Migori Youth Talent Academy, where he sharpened his game before receiving the ultimate reward.

In December 2024, shortly after completing his secondary school examinations at Kasagam Secondary School, Okoth earned promotion to Migori Youth's senior team midway through the 2024/25 campaign.

His introduction to senior football, however, was far from ideal.

The youngster featured in only three league matches as Migori endured a difficult season, battling relegation until the closing stages before eventually preserving their NSL status.

Rather than discourage him, those early setbacks became the foundation for what would follow for the Kasagam Secondary School alumnus, who would soon emerge as one of Migori Youth's most influential players.

When the 2025/26 campaign kicked off, Okoth grabbed his opportunity with both hands.

In what was his first full season in the NSL, the lanky and combative midfielder transformed into one of the competition's most consistent performers.

Operating as the team's anchor in midfield, he dictated the tempo of matches, broke up opposition attacks, protected the backline and initiated attacking moves with impressive composure on the ball.

His maturity belied his age, with his leadership qualities becoming increasingly evident as the season progressed.

Statistics only reinforced his importance.

Out of Migori Youth's 38 league matches, Okoth featured in 37, missing just one fixture throughout the entire campaign—making him the club's most used outfield player as Migori marched to the National Super League title.

Blessed with intelligent positioning, crisp passing, technical ability and the confidence to strike from distance, Okoth became an indispensable figure in Sammy Otulo's tactical setup.

His consistency helped steer Migori to a historic achievement as the Mozzart Bet-backed side secured promotion to the FKF Premier League for the first time in the club's history before sealing the National Super League crown in emphatic fashion.

Reflecting on his incredible rise, Okoth admitted the journey has exceeded his expectations.

"I was at my home team Kakrao after I was done with school. I went straight into the team in the second half of that season and only played three games," Okoth stated. "In my second full season it wasn't easy when I started, but I stepped up. I played 37 matches and missed just one.

I am so delighted that I played a big part in the team's success. Winning the title and earning promotion is very historic. I am very grateful for the achievement. I am happy, and my family is equally happy and proud of what I have achieved."

With Migori Youth now preparing for life in the FKF Premier League, the midfielder is determined to prove that his breakthrough season was only the beginning.

Having climbed from grassroots football in Kakrao to becoming an NSL champion within a remarkably short period, Okoth now has his sights firmly fixed on the country's biggest football stage.

"I am more than thrilled to begin my top-flight journey. It is every player's dream to play in the highest league, and I am more than eager to take the league by storm," he added.

As Migori Youth embark on their maiden FKF Premier League campaign, expectations will be high for the squad that delivered one of the greatest seasons in the club's history. For Okoth, however, promotion is not the destination but the beginning.

From the dusty pitches of Kakrao to the bright lights of Kenya's top flight, the midfielder has already shown that hard work, patience, belief and half chance can turn an unknown talent into one of the country's most promising midfielders.
