Following a drab first half that saw chances few and far between the two teams, the game burst into life in the 72nd minute when Ryan Jackson put Gillingham ahead.
Jonathan Obika who had just been on the pitch for 10 minutes levelled proceedings for Morecambe as they settled for a vital point to hand them a boost in the relegation dog fight.
Ayub Timbe
Kenyan international Ayub Timbe could not extend his goal-scoring streak as Buriram United edged Samut Prakan City 1-0 in the Thai League 1.
Timbe coincidentally scored against the same opponents in the League Cup on Wednesday but this time Congolese forward Jonathan Bolingi’s goal was enough to win the tie and extend their lead at the summit of the log to eight points.
Masud Juma
Former Kariobangi Sharks forward Masud Juma started his second consecutive game for Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi in the barren draw against Hassania Union Sport Agadir in the Moroccan Botola Pro.
Masud was coming off a long injury layoff but is yet to mark his return with a goal as Difaâ continued to stay in touch with log leaders Wydad Casablanca who hold a nine-point advantage over them.
Joseph Okumu & Clarke Oduor
Kenyan internationals Joseph Okumu and Clarke Oduor missed KAA Gent and Barnsley's victories in the Belgian top flight and English Championship respectively due to injuries.
Okumu was ruled out with an adductors muscle injury that he picked in training before their last match against Club Brugge while Oduor is nursing a leg injury since December.
