Is a long-awaited wish of many Real Madrid supporters finally close to becoming reality? Club icon Luka Modric could reportedly be heading back to the Spanish giants. Italian media claim the Croatian midfielder might once again wear the famous white shirt as soon as this summer.
According to the Italian sports newspaper "Tuttosport," Massimiliano Allegri is one of the managers being considered to take charge of Real Madrid next season. The Italian tactician has previously appeared on the club’s shortlist on two separate occasions, but the move never materialized.
Could this finally be the moment? The report adds that Allegri would have two key requests if he were to accept the job. First: he would want Modric to follow him to Madrid from AC Milan. Second: Real Madrid would also need to pursue experienced midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
The reasoning behind those demands is clear. Allegri is currently enjoying productive spells with both players at the historic Serie A side and would prefer to rely on familiar leaders if he were to take over in Spain.
Their arrivals could also address a lingering issue for Real Madrid. Ever since Modric’s exit last summer and the retirement of Toni Kroos in 2024, the club has struggled to fill the creative void in midfield. A reunion with Modric, alongside the addition of former PSG midfielder Rabiot, could help stabilize that area.
Meanwhile, the situation on the Real Madrid bench remains uncertain. Alvaro Arbeloa, who stepped in for Xabi Alonso this season, is facing mounting pressure. The former defender has yet to establish a clear tactical identity within a squad packed with elite talent, including Vinicius Jr. and Kylian Mbappe.
At the moment, Real Madrid sit second in La Liga, four points behind Barcelona. Their Copa del Rey campaign has already ended, while a demanding Champions League round-of-16 clash against Manchester City awaits. Another season without silverware could spell the end of Arbeloa’s tenure.
That leaves one intriguing question: could Allegri be the next man in charge in Madrid — and arrive with Modric and Rabiot at his side?
