Togolese custodian is demanding in excess of a million shillings accrued within four months

As Sofapaka continue to figure out on how to smart out of FIFA’s red list, Togolese international Moubarak Aigba is threatening to add salt to the injury thanks to the four-month he has gone without pay at the club.

The goalkeeper arrived at Sofapaka in February after impressing in the African Nations Championships held in Cameroon in January is demanding Ksh 1.3 million accumulated within four months or report the club.

Sofapaka are battling to be freed from the transfer ban imposed by Zurich after Rwandese forward Justin Mico and Burundian centre back Moussa Omar moved to FIFA to demand for their dues.

The ban has since seen Batoto Ba Mungu fail to register the local talents they have lured to their side even as the club boss Elly Kalekwa remains confident that he will clear with the former players next week.

Aigba who is yet to return to Kenya from international duty where Togo played Namibia in a 2022 World Cup qualifier match in the last FIFA week revealed that his efforts to seek an audience with the club honchos and have his money have been futile leaving him to seek justice in Zurich.

Aigba is currently keeping fit with his former club AS OTR in anticipation of a call up in their subsequent qualifier against Congo Brazzaville.

Before I returned to Togo, I had not been paid for four months and life in Kenya was really tough. I tried my best to request the club to pay me but they didn’t. I also sought my release letter without success. My hope is now on FIFA whom I intend my present my case through my lawyers,” he said in a telephone interview.

Sofapaka in a rebuttal admitted that they were at fault but will do anything possible to avert more wrath from FIFA. The club Chief Executive Officer Jimmy Ambajo admitted that payments were delayed after their coffers dried but promised to engage the player’s representative for an amicable solution.

We have been facing financial challenges for some time. Our players went for some months without pay but we are working to resolve that as well as the ban to register new players,” he said.

Kalekwa on his part acknowledged that the player was owed in excess of a million shillings. He however took issue with the player’s decision to abscond duty from the time he jetted back to Lome for international matches.
