Botola Pro leaders FUS and their Rabat rivals FAR meet tonight
The title race in Morrocco is in full swing - and the Derby of Rabat tonight could have massive implications on the two-horse race, which could easily turn into a three-horse race.
FAR Rabat (short of Association's Sports of Forces Armed Royal) are the league leaders with seven points more than rivals FUS Rabar - but only a point above the Botola Pro and CAF Champions League holders Wydad AC. The Casablanca giants are playing Moghreb Atletico Club Tetuan, knowing that three points, combined with a derby success for FUS, would see them climb into the top position. However, they will probably play tonight's game with the upcoming CAFCL final first-leg encounter with Al Ahly in mind.
Stadium Moulay El Hassan will host the 119th head-to-head clash between the two rivals, the first of which was played in the 1958/59 season. Historically, FAR Rabat have more success, winning 48 games as opposed to 28 wins for FUS (or Fath Union Sport Football Club, to be exact). However, these things count for little when the noise of the whole city is around the game - and with the confidence of Jamal Sellami's men.
These teams have already met twice this year, in both the league and the quarter-final of the Coupe du Maroc, winning both games by a slender 1-0 margin. As a result, the Royal Army has sacked their French coach Fernando Da Cruz and replaced him with Aziz Samadi, former Morocco international, who represented both Rabat teams during his playing career - albeit his FAR career was much longer, seven and a half years compared to six months with FUS.
