These players not only helped their sides keep as many clean sheets as possible , but also chipped in with crucial goals

They put their bodies on the line to ensure their teams did not concede easy goals.

They made significant contributions in attack as well, scoring from set pieces and long-range efforts while also helping to build play from the back.

Occasionally, they created chances for their teammates, and some even had the honour of captaining their sides.

These are the defenders who stood out the most in the concluded 2025–26 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season, according to Mozzart Sport writers.

Kevin Teya

Defender of the Season (Wycliffe Omondi)

The Shabana FC defender played a crucial role in the club’s defensive solidity and was instrumental in helping goalkeeper Stephen Ochieng secure the 'Golden Glove' award.

Beyond his defensive duties, Omondi also made a significant impact going forward, scoring five league goals and finishing as the joint top-scoring defender in the FKF Premier League.

Kakamega Homeboyz' Portipher Odhiambo also scored five goals.

He was a constant presence at the heart of Shabana’s defence throughout the season, and it is no surprise that he has attracted strong interest from several clubs ahead of the next campaign.

Josh Angatia

Abud Omar ( Kenya Police FC)

Ever since his switch from left back to central defence, Omar has been outstanding for Police FC.

His left foot has opened up good passing angles for his side, with his trademark long balls in behind for the offensive players.

Omar's game intelligence has allowed Police FC to push their left back higher up the pitch as his athleticism and intelligence as pre-mentioned allow him to cover well.

Sammy Gitahi

Abud Omar (Kenya Police FC)

Might have been snubbed in the League Awards, but is the sure-fire candidate for me.

First, his versatility was on show after shifting from his usual left-back position to centre back, and doing an outstanding job.

Despite his switch, Omar came up with four goals (three of them which were game winners), four assists, and led his side to 18 total clean sheets.

That tally helped him to 10 man-of-the-match awards, and guess which team conceded the least number of goals all through the season? Kenya Police. A meagre 21 goals.

That's impact.

Brian Odhiambo

Abudd Omar (Kenya Police)

Since being moved from left-back to the left side of central defence, Omar has become one of Police FC's most reliable performers.

His cultured left foot has added a different dimension to the team's build-up play, creating better passing angles and allowing him to pick out runners with his trademark long balls over the top.

The switch has also enabled Police FC to commit more numbers forward on the left flank.

His positional awareness and reading of the game allowed him to cover large spaces effectively whenever the full-back ventured higher up the pitch.

Perhaps most importantly, the role is far from new to him.

His understanding of the position has been evident throughout the season, making the transition look seamless while bringing greater balance to the league champions' backline.

Meshack Kisenge

Abud Omar

The Kenya Police FC skipper had an amazing season- arguably his best since joining the team in 2023.

He delivered both at central defence and as a left back, underlying his versatility and experience.

Under his anchorship, Police kept 18 clean sheets and conceded 21 goals, the fewest in the season.

We all enjoyed his goals and his technique in delivering set pieces accurately.

In the absence of David 'Cheche' Ochieng, he skippered the team.
