Anfield feared that the bad mood at the Allianz Arena due to the failure of incoming transfers could backfire on the whole deal, but Jurgen Klopp's biggest August wish was fulfilled
Bayern didn't do well on the last day of the transfer window, and apart from the failed signings of Joao Palhinha and Armel Bella Kochap, the Bavarians' playing staff was further weakened by the departure of Ryan Gravenberch (21). Liverpool were targeting another big signing throughout August, after spending 112,000,000 euros on Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister at the beginning of the transfer window. He did not decide on either Cheick Doucouré or Ibrahim Sangare, who were linked to Anfield for weeks. The choice fell on a player who is known for his great talent, but who did not get a real opportunity at Bayern.
In the final hours, Gravenberch's move to Anfield seemed to be in jeopardy as the Bavarians failed to secure Tuchel's long-sought holding midfielder. Not only did Bayern not strengthen the competition in the maneuver, but they allowed themselves to enter the season with only three central midfielders - Kimmich, Goretzka and Leimer.
Fortunately, Liverpool got what they asked for - it costs them 40,000,000 fixed and another potential five in case of fulfillment of the bonus.
In the end, Bayern did not fare badly financially in the whole aftermath, because only a year ago Gravenberch left Ajax and came to the Allianz Arena in a transfer worth 18,500,000 euros. Great performances in the Dutch giants recommended him to a number of European clubs with higher paying capacity, and Bayern then won a duel against serious competition. The guy born in Amsterdam played 34 games for Bayern, scoring one goal, and as the season progressed he got more and more room to play. Thomas Tuchel had more faith in the Ajax kid than the previous Julian Nagelsmann, and this is also evidenced by the fact that he played in each of the last nine Bundesliga games during April and May, when Tuchel had already replaced Nagelsmann. True, he mostly came off the bench, but he contributed solidly to Bayern's new championship title in a shocking development in the last round.

Jürgen Klopp also wanted a reinforcement in the central midfielder position, and Gravenberch himself insisted on the transfer in recent days. It appeared at one point on the final day of the transfer window that the deal might fall through after Bayern were left short-handed for the signings of Palhinha and Bela Kochap, but in Gravenberch's case, things have gone too far to stop.
Gravenberch will most likely make his debut in the Reds shirt after the international break, when Liverpool face Wolverhampton away on September 16.
