NSL: Action heats up as top guns battle for promotion spots

Six matches are lined up across various venues in the country

Action in the National Super League (NSL) intensifies today with six matches scheduled across the country.

Saturday’s fixtures saw APS Bomet secure a 2-0 victory over Luanda Villa in Bomet, propelling them to the top of the standings. Meanwhile, Kibera Black Stars recorded an identical 2-0 win in Nairobi against Dimba Patriots, moving into the promotion brackets.

Nairobi United vs Migori Youth

Nairobi United aims to extend its impressive record against Migori Youth when the two sides clash in an early kick-off at Mpesa Foundation in Thika.

Under the stewardship of former Nairobi City Stars coach Nicholas Muyoti, the Naibois enter the fixture knowing that a victory will reclaim the league’s top spot from APS Bomet and extend their winning streak to four matches.

Muyoti has strengthened his squad with experienced recruits expected to play a pivotal role in the club’s push for automatic promotion.

Meanwhile, Migori arrives in Thika struggling with inconsistency, having failed to register a win in their last five outings.

The team’s last triumph dates back to mid-December 2024, when they edged 3K FC 1-0 at Migori Stadium.

Since then, they have recorded two draws and three defeats, causing them to slip out of the top half of the standings. A win in this encounter could elevate them to seventh place, depending on other results.

Naivas vs Kisumu All Stars

Kisumu All Stars face a challenging trip to Machakos, where they are set to take on seventh-placed Naivas at Kenyatta Stadium.

The embattled Otenga have endured difficulties since late 2024, as the County Government of Kisumu withdrew its sponsorship earlier this week, leaving the team in disarray.

Despite the financial turmoil, well-wishers ensured the squad honoured the fixture, though they travelled with only 13 players following an exodus of key members seeking opportunities elsewhere.

A victory against the Elvis Ayani-coached Naivas, who have drawn their last two matches against Vihiga United and Migori Youth, could inject much-needed morale into the team and its loyal supporters.

Meanwhile, Naivas aims to extend its unbeaten run since the turn of the year, continuing its charge toward automatic promotion. Three points against the Eagles would move the Retailers ten points closer to league leaders APS Bomet.

Fortune Sacco vs MOFA

In Kerugoya, fourth-placed Fortune Sacco welcomes fifth-placed Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) in a rematch of last season’s FKF Division Promotion Playoff, where Sacco triumphed 3-0 to secure promotion to the second tier.

MOFA has reinforced its squad with four new signings: Peter Mbuya from Luanda Villa, Alfred Maningi from Mombasa Stars, Kevin Bulimo from Kiminini Combined, and Tony Nyangor from Muhoroni Youth.

Meanwhile, Fortune Sacco welcomes back head coach Michael Otimong, who returns after a three-game absence. Additionally, key players Emmanuel Abala and Mark Epa have recovered from injuries and are set to feature in the encounter.

A win for either side could propel them into the promotion brackets, contingent on results from other fixtures.

Elsewhere, Vihiga United faces Samwest Black Boots at Kenya Institute of Highway Building and Technology grounds in Ngong, SS Assad hosts 3K at Ukunda Showgrounds, and Darajani Gogo rounds off the day's action against Mombasa Stars at Marsit International School Grounds.
