Vihiga United vs Migori Youth
The day’s headline clash will take place at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium Kisumu, where bottom-placed Vihiga United host second-placed Migori Youth from 3pm.
Migori head into the encounter hoping to cut the gap on league leaders Mombasa United to three points.
Mombasa extended their lead at the summit to six points on Saturday after dispatching Equity Bank 3-1.
For Vihiga, however, the season has been largely disappointing, the former FKF Premier League side sits rooted at the bottom of the table with just 13 points and faces a real threat of relegation.
Despite strengthening heavily during the January transfer window, the side coached by Milton Kidiga has struggled for consistency. In their last ten league matches, Vihiga have managed only two wins.
Their recent results include defeats to Nzoia Sugar, FC Talanta, Mombasa United, Mwatate United, Equity Bank, Nairobi City Stars and 3K FC, with their only victories coming against Kibera Black Stars and Mully Children Family.
Ahead of the clash, Vihiga also lost 3-0 in a friendly against Mara Sugar at Hamisi Grounds.
Migori Youth, coached by Sammy Otulo, arrive in good form, having lost just once in their last six matches.
The border club has picked up victories against Darajani Gogo, Simba wa Nairobi, Luanda Villa and Naivas, with their only defeat in that run coming against Gucha Stars.
Historically, the two sides have met nine times, with Migori winning four matches, Vihiga two and three ending in draws. The first-leg meeting ended 1-1 at Awendo Green Stadium.
Luanda Villa vs Mully Children Family
Elsewhere, Luanda Villa will host Mully Children Family (MCF) at Mumboha Grounds in a match that marks MCF’s return to the league.
MCF had earlier withdrawn from the competition due to financial constraints before being reinstated following a visit by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed.
The club had played 18 matches before pulling out and had already handed walkovers against Kabati Youth and Gucha Stars. It remains unclear whether those fixtures will be replayed.
“We explained that the problem was lack of funds. They encouraged me and invited us back to the NSL, explaining that some people had offered to help us. Because of the kindness shown, I was very happy and decided that we could start again,” said MCF founder Charles Muli.
Luanda Villa are also seeking to steady their campaign after a poor run of results. The club recently reappointed former coach Leonard Saleh following the resignation of Francis Chinjili.
Chinjili stepped down citing pressure from fans and management after losing all five matches he oversaw since taking charge from Saleh earlier in the season.
Villa currently sit 15th on 22 points, just one point above the relegation zone, while MCF occupy 19th place with 19 points from 19 matches.
In other matches scheduled for the day, Kisumu All Stars will face Nzoia Sugar at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu from 1pm.
Meanwhile, Soy United will host FC Talanta at Ndura Sports Complex as teams continue to battle for crucial points in the race for promotion and survival.
