MOFA, currently fifth on the standings with 60 points, remains an outsider in the race for promotion and face an uphill task in their attempt to secure a top-flight ticket at the second time of asking.

The battle for promotion and survival in the National Super League (NSL) is set to intensify on Sunday afternoon, May 24, with four high-stakes fixtures at both ends of the table taking centre stage as just four matches remain before the curtain falls on the 2025/26 campaign.

At Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu, Michael Olunga Football Academy will renew their rivalry with Kisumu All Stars in a clash carrying enormous significance in both the promotion and relegation race.

MOFA, currently fifth on the standings with 60 points, remains an outsider in the race for promotion and face an uphill task in their attempt to secure a top-flight ticket at the second time of asking.

The Homa Bay-based side revived their fading hopes last weekend after edging Gucha Stars 2-1 to end a frustrating two-match winless streak, and they will now be desperate to build on that momentum with consecutive victories.

Victory for MOFA would see them close the gap on the promotion places to five points, although that margin could stretch again should Mombasa United secure victory later in the day.

Any slip-up against All Stars, however, could all but extinguish their promotion ambitions in what is increasingly shaping up to be a tightly contested four-horse race.

Despite their struggles this season, Kisumu All Stars remain dangerous opponents, especially with survival still hanging in the balance.

The former FKF Premier League side has endured a turbulent campaign marked by managerial changes and inconsistent performances, circumstances that have left them hovering dangerously close to the relegation zone for much of the season.

Currently sitting just two places above the drop zone on 32 points, Kisumu head into the tie knowing a positive result could significantly strengthen their survival bid.

Maximum points would move them to 35 points and open a valuable six-point cushion above the bottom three, potentially placing them within touching distance of securing their league status for another season.

Meanwhile, at Wundanyi Stadium in Mwatate, an intriguing all-Coast encounter awaits as Mwatate United host promotion-chasing Mombasa United.

Mombasa travel to Taita Taveta buoyed by a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Nairobi City Stars, a result that thrust them firmly back into the title conversation.

The win also marked the first triumph for head coach Peter Okidi since taking charge, and the tactician will now be eager to build on that promising start.

Having slipped to second place following Migori Youth’s victory on Saturday, Mombasa know another win would see them draw level on points at the summit and further reaffirm their title credentials.

Anything less, however, could hand Migori a crucial breathing space in the race for automatic promotion.

Yet Mombasa are expected to face stern resistance from a Mwatate side battling desperately to preserve their NSL status.

Rooted at the foot of the table on 25 points, the James Tole-led outfit have little margin for error heading into the fixture.

A win for the hosts would lift them to 28 points and move them within three points of safety, making the contest a must-win affair for the relegation-threatened side.

Elsewhere, attention will also turn to Eldoret Showground, where Soy United entertain struggling Kabati Youth in another crucial encounter.

Soy head into the clash wounded after suffering a surprise 1-0 defeat to Vihiga United last weekend and will be eager to bounce back immediately.

Though comfortably clear of relegation danger in their return campaign to the NSL, the side coached by Jeffers Odongo remains determined to secure a respectable top-half finish.

However, they will come up against a Kabati Youth side fighting for survival in their maiden season in the second tier.

The Thika-based outfit has endured a difficult debut campaign, struggling for consistency while spending much of the season rooted near the bottom of the standings.

Now winless for over five weeks and sitting on 29 points, Kabati approach the fixture with their backs firmly against the wall.

Victory would move them to 32 points and provide a significant boost in their bid to escape relegation trouble, setting the stage for what promises to be a fiercely contested battle.

The final fixture of the day will see Nzoia Sugar host Naivas FC at Sudi Stadium.

Nzoia head into the match desperate to halt a worrying four-match winless run and rediscover their form on home soil.

Naivas, on the other hand, arrive in a confident mood after a commanding 3-0 victory over Gogo United, a result that further strengthened their late push for a top-five finish.

Having seen their promotion hopes gradually fade away in recent weeks, the retailers will now be aiming to end the season strongly and extend their impressive run of form with another positive result away from home.
