Red-hot forward Nehemiah Onchiri continued his blistering form, netting the decisive goal in the 35th minute with a beautifully executed curling volley that sailed past Luanda Villa custodian Joseph Ogenda, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.

Despite going behind, Villa mounted a spirited second-half response, launching wave after wave of attacks. However, Mombasa’s backline remained resolute, repelling every offensive attempt to preserve their slender lead until the final whistle.

The crucial victory saw the coastal outfit maintain their perfect record, registering a third consecutive win that lifted them to the summit of the 18-team standings with nine points.

Conversely, the result left Luanda Villa winless after three matches, languishing at the lower end of the table as pressure continues to mount on coach Leonard Saleh.

FC Talanta 0-0 3K FC

At the Dandora Stadium, former FKF Premier League side FC Talanta endured a frustrating afternoon as they were held to a goalless draw by a disciplined 3K FC outfit.

The Embu-based side, in their second season in the NSL, displayed commendable organisation and composure to frustrate a Talanta side eager to bounce back from last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Migori Youth.

3K had the ball in the back of the net twice through Mark Kithome, but both efforts were ruled out for offside, allowing Jackson Gatheru’s men to escape unscathed.

The draw took Talanta to four points, five adrift of league leaders Mombasa United, while 3K continued their impressive run, building on last weekend’s stunning 1-0 triumph over Darajani Gogo to move level on points with the Communications Authority of Kenya-backed side.

Vihiga United 0-0 Naivas FC

At the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu, Vihiga United were left frustrated after being held to a goalless draw by Naivas FC in a tightly contested affair.

The hosts, under Milton Kidiga, dominated proceedings and created several scoring opportunities but lacked the clinical edge to convert their superiority into goals.

The result means Vihiga remain winless after three rounds, following an opening-day draw against Kabati Youth and a narrow 1-0 loss to Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA).

For Naivas, the stalemate was equally disappointing. Coach Elvis Ayani’s charges slipped off the pace at the top of the standings, remaining on seven points, two behind leaders Mombasa United.

Victory in Mamboleo would have seen them draw level at the summit, but they now turn their focus to their next fixture as they seek to reignite their winning momentum.
