Oliech threatened to sue Gor Mahia when they terminated his contract in 2019. The club accused him of gross misconduct

Dennis Oliech has explained why he opted against suing Gor Mahia when they arbitrarily terminated his contract in August 2019.

The former Harambee Stars striker was fired by the record league champions months into his two-year contract for what the club termed as gross misconduct from the player. They further vowed not to pay the money they owed him in salary and signing fee arrears.

Oliech threatened to move to court to have his dues settled but the matter has since cooled down. Almost two years later, the matter has never reached the corridors of justice.

The striker has now explained why he did not sue the 19-time champions. According to him, the passion he had for the team and the fact that his dad and siblings played for K’Ogalo guided his decision to drop the matter.

When they terminated my contract, my sister advised that we sue them. I tried to look for a lawyer but after some time I opted against going to court because it was a club I was passionate about. My dad played for Gor Mahia, my brothers too played for the club and I thought it was not necessary,” he said during the Tikitaka.

Oliech further admitted that there is no love lost and that he could link up with Gor in the future.

I may need help from them or they may need assistance from me someday. The club chairman Ambrose Rachier is someone I talk to once in a while and when I have an issue that needs to be sorted out let’s say with the Embassy I know he will come in handy,” he added.

He went on to explain how the club targeted him and other senior players for being vocal which eventually led to their exit from the club.

“They wanted to get rid of Kahata (Francis), Batambuze (Shafik), Shakava (Harun), and I because we were getting paid higher wages. They also said we were inciting the other players because we were speaking out when our salaries delayed and this did not go well with the management, “he concluded.

Oliech has since retired from football.
