The lanky defender was sent off in the crucial 1-1 draw against Egypt in the AFCON qualifying clash back in March

Wazito FC centre back Johnstone Omurwa has promised to give even better performances for the Harambee Stars should be entrusted with a feature once again after seeing a red card in his last outing for the national team.

Back in March, when a charging Stars took on the Pharaohs of Egypt in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations round five qualifier clash at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, Omurwa dented Kenya’s hopes of securing a win after picking up a silly red card in the 75th minute of the game that consequently reduced the team to 10 men and forced the Ghost Mulee-led side to go into a protective mode with the game tied at 1-1.

Entrusted with partnering Tanzanian based Joash Onyango at the heart of defence on the day, the tough-tackling defender, in an interview on his club’s monthly online magazine, opened up on the career lessons he got after being sent off in the match.

“I believe I gave a good account of myself apart from the red card. The sending off was an important learning lesson for me, especially on such a big stage. I am more inspired to come back stronger and wiser,” the 23-year older defender is quoted.

The defender, known for his tough tackling and combative nature also went ahead and revealed where his idiosyncratic playing style stems from.

“Away from football, the sport that I love the most is wrestling. I have always loved watching wrestling since I was a small boy. I love the aggression and theatrics on display,” he said.

With the league tentatively set to resume this Friday, May 14th, the former Mathare United player confidently backed his side to a top-three finish in the 2020/2021 Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

“Previous performances have shown that we have a great fighting spirit in our team. What we should learn is to kill off games once we go ahead. I believe we can achieve a top 3 finish once the league campaign resumes,” he concluded.

Initially, Wazito were supposed to duel with defending champions Gor Mahia tomorrow but with covid-19 testing taking centre stage ahead of the proposed resumption of the league, the Ricardo Badoer funded side are set to travel all the way to Wundanyi Stadium in Taita where they will lock horns with Sofapaka.
