Otieno came on in the 45th minute while Makwata and Onyango were unused substitutes.

Kenyan international Duncan Otieno came off the bench in the 45th minute as his Gaborone United side battled to a 1-0 win over Morupule Wanderers in a Botswana Premier League match staged at the Serowe Sports Complex.

For the first time this season, Otieno did not start but had to come on in the 45th minute when Lesego Galenamotlhale, who was making his first appearance of the season for the club picked an injury.

The match was far from comfortable for the league leaders but a Mothusi Johnson's goal in the 33rd minute ensured that the visitors picked three points that helped them open a two-point gap at the top. They lead with 29 points after 11 rounds of matches while Jwaneng Galaxy are second with 27 after a similar number of games.

While Otieno featured for 45 minutes, his compatriot John Makwata remained on the bench for ninety minutes, he is yet to nail a place in the team 11 matches into the new season.

"It was not an easy game for us but we had to see it off. We absorbed a little of pressure from the opponents. We missed a lot of chances but we'll keep on working on it. It's not that I'm unhappy, we collected maximum points," United assistant coach Pontsho Moloi told the club media after the game.

Burton Albion thrashed

Elsewhere in the English League One, Kenyan midfielder Tyler Onyango watched from the bench as his side suffered a 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Shrewsbury.

Things started going wrong inside the first minute when Christian Saydee gave the visitors the lead. The striker then got his second of the game two minutes before the break. Luke Leahy then made it 3-0 from the spot in the 58th minute and deep into stoppage time, the rout was completed when Chey Dunkley scored a third of the game. The result leaves Burton second last in the log.
