The reasons behind his decision are allegedly still unclear, and the news came like a bolt from the blue, especially considering Edu's status at the club and his relationship with the gaffer Mikel Arteta. As per certain sources, "the power" struggle is behind the Brazilian's resolution, but more information should be available in the upcoming few days.
The 46-year-old Edu took the role of Arsenal sporting director in 2019 and has been responsible for numerous signings since then. He was the most deserving for the arrivals of Declan Rice and the captain Martin Odegaard, who were among the key players in the Gunners' rise in the past few seasons. During his playing career, Edu wore Arsenal's jersey from 2001 to 2005 and was a part of the club's historic generation, "The Invincibles."
