Kenya are third in Group F with four points from three matches and a plus four goal difference

The Harambee Stars continued their quest for the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification with a 1-1 draw against Burundi at Bingu National Stadium in Malawi.

The team appeared average throughout the game until the introduction of Austin Odhiambo and Duke Abuya, who energized the match and gave Kenya the lead.

However, a judgment error by goalkeeper Patrick Matasi allowed Intamba to equalize, resulting in a shared point.

Timothy Ouma also made his debut for the senior side. Here are the player ratings powered by Mozzart Sport.

Patrick MatasiGoalkeeper
In the opening minutes, he was the best player on the pitch, demonstrating maturity and commanding his territory well. His footwork was impressive throughout the first half. Although he was mostly untested in the second half, his poor judgment in stepping out of line led to Burundi's equalizer. Better decision-making could have prevented the goal.

3
Rooney OnyangoDefense
He was Kenya's best player on the field today. While he contributed less offensively and appeared somewhat out of structure in the first half, his defensive efforts were evident. He effectively managed to keep pace with Burundi's speedy attackers.
Rating
6
Johnstone OmurwaDefense
He started the game well, with a standout moment in the 14th minute when he stopped a potential Burundi attack. However, he later appeared lost and was unable to assist his partner, Daniel Anyembe, when Abdallah Sudi overpowered him to score the equalizer. Improvement is needed in the next game.
Rating
4
Daniel AnyembeDefense
He made a promising debut as a left center-back, showcasing his abilities. However, he experienced occasional lapses in concentration and struggled to track runs behind the defence. His involvement in Burundi's goal highlighted areas for improvement. Nonetheless, there is ample potential for growth as he prepares for the next game.
Rating
4
Aboud OmarDefense
It was not a good outing for him on his return to the national team. Most of Burunid's attacks came from his flank and he could have done better offensively
Rating
3
Anthony AkumuMidfield
Akumu did well alongside his partner in crime Richard Odada. He held fort well defensively but arguably should have been more progressive on the ball, as he attempted too many horizontal and backward passes.
Rating
5
Richard OdadaMidfield
Had some flashes of brilliance and a generally okay game. Can be a beast on a good day though and would have done better therefore. His moment of the match was in the 11th minute when his shot hit a crossbar. Odada joined attacks more often and was good at pressing, pushing high but struggled to get through in build-ups.
Rating
5
Timothy OumaMidfield
It wasn't a debut to remember for Kenya Under-20s. His notable moment in the first half was receiving a yellow card after fouling Keita Bukuru. However, he improved in the second half, challenging Burundi's custodian Nahimana at the hour mark with a clever chip from the right. The Burundian keeper stretched to his limit to tip the ball out for a corner before he was substituted.

4
Kenneth MugunaMidfield
He blew hot and cold once again and he is still a pale shadow of the midfielder who lit up the Kenyan league seasons ago while featuring for Gor Mahia
Rating
4
Clifton MihesoAttack
He looked off-colour in the minutes he lasted on the pitch. The Leopards man struggled to make any offensive impact. He was withdrawn in the 65th minute
Rating
4
Michael OlungaAttack
The captain was underwhelming against Burundi. He had a lot of misplaced passes and will need to be in shape before the next game
Rating
3
Austin OdhiamboAttack
He was on the field for just seven minutes after coming on as a substitute but made a significant impact by creating Duke Abuya's goal. This came shortly after Michael Olunga had headed wide from his delivery.
Rating
4
Duke AbuyaMidfield
He made an instant impact by combining well with Austin Odhiambo to give Kenya the lead. However, he saw less of the ball as the game progressed.
Rating
4
Benson OmalaAttack
It will be unfair to rate him; he was in the field for barely two minutes
