Manchester City was leading the race for the Ghana international, but…

Bournemouth are bracing themselves for an unexpected development, with Liverpool now tipped to step into the race for Antoine Semenyo in what could prove a late shake-up in the chase for the highly sought-after attacker.

The Ghana international found the net in a losing cause during Saturday’s heavy 4–1 defeat to Brentford, a match that is likely to be among his last for the Cherries. Semenyo is widely expected to move on in January, with talks over his future scheduled for Monday, including discussions involving Manchester City.

City are not alone. Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham have all signaled interest, though any deal would require activating the 65 million pounds release clause written into Semenyo’s contract. Chelsea explored a move late last week but have since cooled their pursuit, pointing to their existing options in attack.

Pep Guardiola’s side remain at the front of the queue. Fresh from extending their winning run to eight matches across all competitions with victory over Nottingham Forest, City are understood to be Semenyo’s first choice after the 26-year-old spent the days before Christmas weighing up his next step.

The champions are eager to conclude negotiations swiftly, aiming to have everything in place before the transfer window opens next Thursday, a move that would significantly strengthen their title push. However, Liverpool have tracked Semenyo for some time, and his nine Premier League goals this season have only reinforced that admiration.

While the Reds have so far stayed out of a direct bidding battle with City, sources on the south coast suggest sporting director Richard Hughes is now considering another move for a player from his former club. Hughes previously oversaw the signing of Milos Kerkez last summer, and Liverpool are actively looking to bolster their attacking options.

Should Liverpool’s interest turn concrete, Semenyo would be faced with a defining choice as the January window approaches.
