With Cristiano Ronaldo’s legendary career nearing its conclusion, Saudi Arabia is searching for its next marquee superstar.
Ronaldo (40) has dropped multiple hints that his time on the pitch is approaching its final chapter. That news has sent shockwaves through Saudi Arabia — the SPL is on the verge of losing its biggest attraction. The league desperately needs a new face of its project, and Salah fits the bill perfectly: a global icon, an enormous commercial force, and still a high-level performer.
It’s no secret that Salah has long ranked at the top of Saudi Arabia’s wish list. In fact, back in 2023, a move to the Middle East appeared almost inevitable before Salah chose to continue at Anfield, even signing an extension with Liverpool in 2025. Now, the saga looks ready for another chapter.
According to The Telegraph, the SPL plans to push harder than ever this summer — one year before Salah’s contract ends in 2027. League officials believe they have a strong chance of convincing him. Their strategy is simple: overwhelm Salah and Liverpool with an astronomical salary package and/or a massive transfer fee. For the Reds, refusing such an offer could be nearly impossible.
Interestingly, the Telegraph adds that Salah intentionally left the door ajar during his previous discussions with Saudi representatives two years ago — a clear sign he hasn’t ruled out moving to the Middle East.
As for finances? In Saudi Arabia, that’s hardly a hurdle. Whether it’s Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, Al Nassr, or another powerhouse, the league is prepared to hand Salah a record-breaking deal. He would essentially be free to choose his destination.
In the end, the specific club matters far less than the outcome. Saudi Arabia wants Salah to become the new face of the league — the heir to Ronaldo’s throne once the Portuguese icon steps away.
