Nikola Kalinic left the Croatian side Hajduk Split in 2009 to pursue a career abroad, and now, at 36, he's back home. And this time, it was not about the money...

Imagine being a FIFA World Cup runners-up squad member with an impressive CV embellished with spells at Milan, Fiorentina, Roma, Atletico Madrid and Blackburn. And then imagine agreeing on a deal worth altogether €6. And now, it's not an SF movie but a reality.

Nikola Kalinic, 36, the veteran Croatian striker, decided to return to his boyhood club, Hajduk Split, and play almost for free.

To be precise, he agreed on a short-term deal until the end of the season that will last six months. His monthly salary will be €1, or KSh 171. Yes, it's not fake news by any means.

"When it comes to finances, it was the easiest deal in the three years I've been at Hajduk. We agreed on a salary of one euro. Kalinic wants to help the club and win the title, and that's the only reason he came back," said the Hajduk's sports director.

A couple of months ago, there were rumours that Kalinic's former Hajduk Ivan Perisic could also return to the club. Still, the Spurs' midfielder eventually prolonged his stay with the North Londoners despite euphoria surrounding his possible return.
