FKF Premier League sides Shabana FC and Mara Sugar have emerged as the leading contenders in the race to sign former Tusker FC defender Dennis Wanjala.
With the off-season transfer window open, clubs are actively strengthening their squads ahead of the 2026/27 season.
At the same time, teams are creating room for new arrivals by parting ways with surplus players or those seeking moves elsewhere.
Shabana have been in the market for a left-back to reinforce their defence, a position that proved problematic last season and forced the club to redeploy James Mazembe from the wing to left-back.
Wanjala's experience in the FKF Premier League with Tusker, Nairobi City Stars and Nzoia United is among the qualities that have made him an attractive target for the Gusii-based side, who are understood to have held advanced talks with the defender.
Mara Sugar, on the other hand, are searching for a replacement for reigning FKF Premier League Defender of the Year Jim Owili, who joined KCB FC after the bankers beat off competition from AFC Leopards for his signature.
Wanjala, who spent the last two seasons at Tusker after joining from Nairobi City Stars, took to social media on Friday, July 10, to announce the end of his stay with the Brewers.
"Time to say goodbye. I am grateful to Tusker for the opportunity to be part of the team for the past two seasons, and now the time has come for me to leave. I am grateful for the friendships and lessons I picked up during my time at the club," wrote Wanjala.
