He made a total of 19 saves, including one penalty, in eight matches and is ranked seventh at the moment

Kenyan international Farouk Shikalo might have left Tanzanian side Mtibwa Sugar barely three months into his stay at the club, but remains one of the most impactful custodians this season on saves in the Tanzania Premier League according to statistics given by the league's broadcaster.

He is ranked in the top ten list of goalkeepers who have made the most saves in the current season despite playing only a handful of matches before parting ways with Mtibwa prematurely.

In the 608 minutes that he played cumulatively over eight appearances in the recent campaign, Shikhalo made a total of 19 saves, one of them being a penalty save.

His 19 saves rank him seventh on the list of most saves, with Tanzania Prison's Hussein Abel leading the chart with a total of 42 saves although he has played double the number of matches the Kenyan played.

Former Gor Mahia custodian David Mapigano Kissu who now turns out for KMC is second on the list followed by Lameck Kanyonga of Mbeya City, Hussein Masalanga, Razack Shekimweli of Mtibwa, Mahmoud Mroivil of Coastal Union, then Shikhalo.

Simba's Aisha Manula, Kagera's Said Kiapo, and Jonathan Nahimana of Namungo close the top ten bracket.

In the meantime, the former Yanga FC custodian who has had local stints with Bandari, Posta Rangers, Muhoroni Youth, Tusker FC, FC Talanta, and the now defunct Ushuru FC is optimistic of landing a deal with an FKFPL side and is looking forward to playing at the local scene again.

"I have been in contact with local teams and I believe you will be seeing me in action soon once the mid-season transfer window opens. I decided to take a break and re-energize after parting ways with my last club and I believe I have had enough rest to get going again," he told Mozzart Sport.

He had joined Mtibwa Sugar in August last year but terminated his year-long deal in November, barely three months, owing to the endless 'issues' off the pitch which he said possessed the potential to water down his performance on the pitch.
