Sofapaka President Elly Kalekwa has today thrown his weight behind club youngster Wisdom Naya after the midfielder and his family came out to ask for financial support to aid in medical treatment for the player. Naya, who is currently suffering from a thigh tumor known as Soft Tissue Sarcoma - a rare type of cancer that begins in the tissues that connect, support and surround other body structures –, appealed for support as he is set to begin chemotherapy sessions next week that cost around Ksh. 55,000.
“I was so touched by Wisdom’s condition, and as family we have resolved to be involved in his treatment. We are going to organize ourselves in the next few days in conjunction with our partners and friends to ensure that Wisdom gets the necessary support on his medical expenses,” Kalekwa is quoted on the club’s portal.
Wisdom made an appearance in the 2018 Copa Coca-Cola Championship final between Kenya and Nigeria where he garnered attention from onlookers. He then joined the Sofapaka senior team at the beginning of the 2019/2020 season before being demoted to the junior team.
Naya on the other hand, expressed gratitude for the gesture shown to him by the club’s president.
“I am so happy today talking to the club president for coming through at a moment when am really in need. He is very remorseful for what has been going through and he has assured me of his total support until I get back to my feet,” he said.
