Spurs choke on a hard toffee, as Nottingham's pursuit of the Reds continues
Reading Time: 2min | Sun. 19.01.25. | 19:22
David Moyes noted a maiden triumph upon returning to Everton, beating Tottenham 3-2, while Forest brushed aside the sorry Southampton by the same score
Everton might have sealed Ange Postecoglou's fate on Tottenham's bench! Spurs did miss as many as 11 players ahead of the clash against the Toffees, but even sides with worse squads and reputations couldn't allow themselves to be 3-0 down at the break at Goodison Park and eventually lose 3-2.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye, and Archie Gray's own goal took care of the work already in the opening 45 minutes, practically securing David Moyes' first win upon returning to Everton. The Toffees opted to defend the lead in the second period and did that excellently, as Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison only managed to soften the blow, but Spurs could not avoid another defeat. Tottenham are now 15th "only" eight points away from the relegation zone, while Everton are breathing down their neck with only four points adrift.
Approximately 175 kilometres to the west, Nottingham Forest ran riots against the sorry Southampton, as the Trees beat the Saints 3-2, continuing their pursuit of the leaders Liverpool. Just like Everton, Nuno Espirito Santo's men were 3-0 up at the break behind Elliott Anderson, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Chris Wood's goals.

And once again, just like the Toffees, the home team got a bit complacent, which the visitors exploited, netting twice after the break over Jan Bednarek in the 60th and Paul Onuachu in the dying minutes. Still, they couldn't jeopardize the Trees' triumph, which moves them to the joint-second spot alongside Arsenal, while the Saints are last with only six points.
