Four out of six Stars plying their trade abroad featured for their teams on Wednesday footballing action
It was a good day in office for Stars based in Zambia as their teams recorded victories. The same could however not be said for Greek based Abud Omar who tasted defeat in his quest to gain promotion to the top tier. Down in South Africa, Anthony Akumu and Brian Mandela were not included in their respective team’s matchday squad. Here is a wrap of how the Stars faired.
Abud Omar
Harambee Stars left back Abud Omar started the quest for promotion to the Greek top tier league on the wrong footing as his Ionikos side lost 2-3 to Levadiakos in the first match of the promotional games in the Greek Super League 2.
Despite getting full minutes under his belt, Omar could only watch as Levadiakos snatched all the three points deep in second half stoppage time to hand his team a very first defeat since the 3rd of March.
Ionokis had a very erratic start to the game as Ivorian Emmanuel Kone scored the opening goal for Levadiakos in the first minute of the game, a lead that would stay intact until the half time interval.
Three minutes after play resumed in the second half, Lefteris Matsoukas restored parity for Ionikos. Not willing to sit back, Georgios Marinos restored the visitors’ lead in the 63rd minute. Determined to walk away with a point Georgios Manalis drew the two levels once again with a strike just eleven minutes to the final whistle. Just when the game seemed to end in a draw, Nestor Mytidis scored in the third minute of added time to steal a victory for his side at the death.
Duncan Otieno
Got full minutes under his belt when his Lusaka Dynamos side eased to a comfortable 3-0 win over Prison Leopards just days after winning the Absa cup.
Man of the match Emmanuel Chabula scored a brace for Dynamos in the 21st and 78th minute as Marvin Jere rounded off the scoring in the 88th minute.
With the win, Dynamos rose to fourth on the league standings with 37 points.
Jesse Were and Ian Otieno
Ian Otieno played full minutes while Jesse Were got 64 minutes of action under his belt when Zesco United came from behind to stage a successful 2-1 comeback against Red Arrows.
Alssane Diarra gave the visitors a quick lead in the first minute of the game but Adrian Chama ensured the two teams went into the tunnels level after converting a penalty in the 45+3rd minute. Ten minutes to time, Kelvin Kampamba completed the turn around that extended Zesco’s lead at the top of the Zambian Super League to eight points
Teddy Akumu and Brian Mandela
Former Gor Mahia man Anthony Akumu was once again missing in Kaizer Chiefs’ matchday squad that was beaten 1-0 by Chippa United.
Brian Mandela on the other hand missed out on Mamelodi Sundown’s squad after developing a muscle injury in his last match against Chiefs.
