Heading to the leg, the Kevin Wambua-coached side has been placed in Pool B together with familiar opponents Ireland and France

After a dismal two previous outings in the HSBC SVNS, Kenya Sevens will be back in action from Saturday, 5 April, to Sunday, 6 April, in Singapore.

The team will look to put their disappointment behind them as they seek victory in the Asian country.

This leg is particularly important for the team as it evokes fond memories of their remarkable triumph in 2016. Under the tutelage of the late Benjamin Ayimba, Shujaa made history by outsmarting the then defending champions and series leaders Fiji 30-7 to claim the main cup title. This marked Kenya's first and only cup title in the World Sevens Series.

It also remains one of the most iconic moments in Shujaa’s history, and this year, they will be hoping to channel that energy to revive their campaign.

Heading to the leg, the Kevin Wambua-coached side has been placed in Pool B together with familiar opponents Ireland and France.

They will face Ireland on Saturday at 7:42 am before locking horns with France hours later at 11:00 am.

They met Ireland during the Dubai 7s ninth-place playoff, where they defeated them 21-7 to proceed to the ninth-place final.

The Kenyans also faced France during their Hong Kong 7s final pool match, where the Frenchmen narrowly won 14-7. The French will undoubtedly be looking to repeat that performance, and Shujaa will be eager to settle the score and build momentum after their 10th-place finish in Hong Kong.

In Hong Kong, Shujaa started their campaign brilliantly, seeing off Spain 19-0 before losing 12-7 to Great Britain. They would then fall 14-7 to France to drop to the ninth-place playoff.

At this stage, they defeated the USA 17-10 to advance to the final, where they narrowly lost 19-17 to South Africa to clinch 10th place.

Despite the strong performances, Shujaa faces a bigger challenge. They will be fighting for survival in the HSBC SVNS relegation playoffs, with only a few points separating them from the teams in the relegation zone.

They managed to secure three points in Hong Kong, leaving them in ninth place with a total of 18 points in the overall standings.

Even winning in the upcoming Singapore Sevens will not be enough for them, as it will only take the team's tally to 38 points.

Great Britain, the team above Shujaa in the standings, has already confirmed a place in the HSBC SVNS Series with 38 points.

Shujaa will face stiff competition in the relegation playoffs, where they will be joined by Uruguay (17 points), who were also in last season’s playoffs, Ireland (15 points), and USA, who currently sit at the bottom and will be desperate to retain their core status at their home tournament in Los Angeles.
